存神亦名思神，又可称为存思、存想，冥想等等，意谓存思人体之中、天地之间各种“神灵”。存神一词，首见于《太平经》。卷一百五十四至一百七十有曰：“万神……皆随人盛衰”；“若以神同城而善御之，静身存神，即病不加也，年寿长矣，神明佑之。”原意是将真神守住己身之内，因此又称：“天地立身以靖，守以神，兴以道。
