央（拼音：yāng）是汉语常用字，此字始见于商代甲骨文。央的古字形像人戴枷，本义为灾祸，是“殃”的古字。人戴枷时，头在中间，所以“央”有中央的意思。犯人戴枷，一般是重罪甚至死罪，前程或性命快要完结，故引申出尽义。犯人戴枷服刑期间，为了减轻不应有的痛苦，往往请求公人行行方便，又引申出央求义。“央”也假借表示长久。 （基本信息栏主要参考资料： ）
