太息又名叹息，叹气，指情志抑郁，胸闷不畅时发出的长吁或短叹声的症状。太息之后自觉宽舒，是情志不遂，肝气郁结之象。
夫海洋者，如今日（之海），由衷之太息。
长太息以掩涕兮，我揩着眼泪啊声声长叹。
夏天的飞鸟，飞到我的窗前唱歌，又飞去了。秋天的黄叶，它们没有什么可唱，只太息一声，飞落在那边。
