太古广场由香港英资地产商太古地产兴建。太古广场一、二期现址，从前为驻港英军的域多利兵房 (Victoria Camp)，兵房迁出后，地皮被香港政府公开拍卖，并由太古地产投得。第三期地皮则由收购湾仔星街一带旧楼而得，前后共耗时约10多年。
