大林姬鼠是啮齿目、鼠科、姬鼠属动物。体形细长，长约70~120mm，与黑线姬鼠相仿，尾长几与体等长，尾季节性稀疏，尾鳞裸露，尾环清晰。耳较大，向前拉可达眼部。前后足各有6个足垫。
