孢子有大小两型其大形者称为大孢子（megaspore）。产生于大孢子囊中。在蕨类植物，大孢子萌发后成退化的雌性原叶体。另外，被子植物及裸子植物的胚囊细胞，产生与蕨类植物的雌性原叶体相同的胚囊故也称大孢子。
