大众文化（popular culture 或 mass culture），是以大众传播媒介(机械媒介和电子媒介)为手段，按商品市场规律去运作的、旨在使大量普通市民获得感性愉悦的日常文化形态。在这个意义上，通俗诗、报刊连载小说、畅销书、流行音乐、电视剧、电影和广告等无疑属于大众文化。 大众文化这一概念最早出现在西班牙哲学家奥尔特加《民众的反叛》一书中。主要指的是一地区、一社团、一个国家中新近涌现的，被大众所信奉、接受的文化。 罗森贝格认为大众文化的不足之处是单调、平淡、庸俗，以及容易在富裕生活中产生的诱惑和孤独感。大众文化往往通过大众化媒体（网络、电视、报纸、杂志等）来传播和表现，尽管这种文化暂时克服了人们在现实中的茫然和孤独感以及生存的危机感，但它也很可能降低了人类文化的真正标准，从而在长远的历史中加深人们的异化。
