外耳道闭锁分为先天性和后天性两种。先天性外耳道闭锁多因外耳发育不全所致，常伴有耳郭畸形或鼓窒结构发育缺欠。后天性外耳道闭锁常由外耳道外伤或炎症后瘢痕挛缩所致。个别患者，在外耳道深处可能包藏表皮样囊肿（胆脂瘤）。
