外伤性白内障大多由于伤情复杂，其形态学特点亦错综复杂。大多数病例可述及明显的外伤史，然而在婴幼儿，切不可忽视无明确外伤的外伤性白内障。晶体在受伤部位混浊之后，很快水化，形成液泡、水肿。混浊很快波及到晶体的周边部，最后导致整个晶体的混浊。
