处州，是浙江省丽水市的古称，始名于隋开皇九年（公元589年），迄今已有1400多年的历史。明朝洪武年间，设置处州府。据明代的《名胜志》载：“隋开皇九年，处士星见于分野，因置处州。” 处州名字起源于星宿分野之说。历史上太平军曾三进处州，至七月十七方撤出。
