填料塔是指流体阻力小，适用于气体处理量大而液体量小的过程。液体沿填料表面自上向下流动，气体与液体成逆流或并流，视具体反应而定。填料塔内存液量较小。无论气相或液相，其在塔内的流动型式均接近于活塞流。若反应过程中有固相生成，不宜采用填料塔。 填料塔在塔内充填各种形状的填充物（称为填料），使液体沿填料表面流动形成液膜，分散在连续流动的气体之中，气液两相接触面在填料的液膜表面上。它属膜状接触设备。
