城镇体系，是指具有一定的时空地域结构的城镇网络。其中常有一主要的、最大的城市居中心地位，其他各城镇则为规模不等、职能不同、层次各异的系列。各城镇在诸多方面互有联系、互为依存，而又互有制约。对城镇体系的研究能为该区域范围内合理分布社会生产力、合理安排人口和城镇布局、充分开发利用国土资源以及进行经济战略部署提供依据。
城镇体系(urban system)是指一定地域范围内若干规模不等、性质不同的城镇及其职能区域相互联系，相互依赖和制约而形成的一个有机的地域城镇系统。
