是指贮存在地球内部的可再生热能，一般集中分布在构造板块边缘一带，起源于地球的熔融岩浆和放射性物质的衰变。全球地热能的储量与资源潜量十分巨大，每年从地球内部传到地面的热能相当于100PW·h,但是地热能的分布相对比较分散，因此开发难度很大。由于地热能是储存在地下的，因此不会受到任何天气状况的影响，并且地热资源同时具有其它可再生能源的所有特点，随时可以采用，不带有害物质，关键在于是否有更先进的技术进行开发。目前地热能在全球很多地区的应用相当广泛，开发技术也在日益完善。
