地表或地下(钻井、矿坑中)观察到的岩石单位系列。用以说明和识别某一地层单位或界线定义的典型剖面称层型。补充层型不足的为参考剖面。其他一般统称地层剖面。测制和编绘地层剖面是最基本的野外地质工作。为了记录观察到的地层的层序、岩性、厚度、化石、相互关系等,通常用图解方式表示。地层剖面。一般包括两种类型:自然剖面图和柱状剖面图。自然剖面图也称横剖面图或地层剖面图,把野外观察到的一个地质断面,按自然地势、原始产状、视厚度,用不同花纹符号代表的岩性,依一定比例尺绘制(图1)。柱状剖面图则是经过换算成真厚度,按地层上下顺序,用柱状图解方式表达,可以附文字说明、化石名称,并根据不同比例尺的需要对划分的岩层进行综合。按对象和内容的不同,可分为露头地层柱状剖面图、钻井柱状剖面图和综合柱状剖面图。
