地基土可粗略地分为无粘性土和粘性土。一般地说， 当基础位于无粘性土上时， 采用文克尔地基模型还是比较适当的， 特别是当基础比较柔软， 又受有局部( 集中) 荷载时。当埋深较大， 土又比较紧密( 如密砂) 时， 除可采用基床系数经深度修正的文克尔地基模型外， 也可采用连续性模型。应指出的是， 比较普遍的看法认为用连续性模型得到的解， 比用文克尔地基模型得到的解更符合实际。
