中国作家协会会员，国家一级作家，有突出贡献专家，供职于陕西省文联。曾获中国作协全国报告文学奖、散文奖及全国电视剧飞天奖、五个一工程奖多项。著有《和谷文集》14卷、长篇小说《还乡》《谷雨》《柳公权传》 等60多部， 舞剧《白鹿原》《长恨歌》编剧。兼事书法绘画。散文作品收入教材和北京高考试卷，翻译为英文、法文。
