周式，宋代，湖南湘阴人，千年学府岳麓书院首任山长，因品学兼优，诲人不倦而著名。宋开宝五年（972）潭州太守朱洞筹资建造了岳麓书院，特聘周式为岳麓书院首任山长。宋真宗赵恒因赏识周式才学而召见他，册封他为国子监主簿。在周式的精心经营下，岳麓书院学生由60多人增至数百人，开启湖湘一脉浓厚学风。周式故后，乡贤云集追悼。
