双手刀，顾名思义是需要用二只手来操作的兵器，极可能是 13 世纪时源自于欧洲的‘条顿民族’（Teutonic），是中古时代步兵战斗用兵器中最笨重者，西元1450~1580年期间流行于欧洲，它的外型极少有改变。一般双手刀长 1.8 公尺，重16 公斤。专用之于比武、防城战或对付持长矛的集团步兵。中国汉朝就出现了一种长刃环首刀，可作为双手刀使用，唐朝以后，双手刀流行于战场。
