单纯性肠梗阻是指由各种原因引起的肠内容物不能通过肠管，但肠管血运是正常的肠梗阻，通常被认为是机械性肠梗阻的一个类型。神经性梗阻一般是单纯性的；机械性肠梗阻中，肠管本身病变、肠腔内堵塞及肠外压迫所致的梗阻通常为单纯性；粘连性肠梗阻一般也是单纯性的。单纯性肠梗阻只能表示某一特定病例在某一特定时段的病变情况，而不能说明病变的全过程。
