升变是国际象棋中的一种特殊着法，指兵到达最底一横行时，可变成后、车、马、象的其中一种。 兵成为后的升变过程，又称为“变后”。由于后集车和象的攻击方法于一身，是各子之中威力最强的，故大部分升变皆是由兵升为后。而由兵变为其他子的升变，称为“下升变”，多数只于棋局问题中出现。由兵升变为马有时也有作用，尤其是升变之后可以将军。有时候，升变为车是为避免无子可动而和局。现实棋局中，升变为象是十分罕见的，大约33000局之中只有1局。
