副神经是十二对颅神经中的一对，按其在脑干从上到下的排列顺序用罗马数字表示为Ⅺ对颅神经。副神经由特殊内脏运动纤维及躯体运动纤维组成。前者起自疑核，支配咽喉肌，后者起自副神经核，支配胸锁乳突肌和斜方肌。当一侧副神经损伤时，导致该侧胸锁乳突肌瘫痪，头无力转向对侧，斜方肌瘫痪肩部下垂，抬肩无力。
