刮板机是煤矿采掘工作面使用的运输机械。主要用于采煤工作面和采区顺槽运输，也可在煤巷，半煤岩巷道掘进工作面使用。它能够向上，也可以向下运输，向上运输一般不超过35度。向下运输一般不超过25度，实际以不超过20度为宜。 刮板机具有运输能力不受货载块度和湿度影响，机身高度小便于装载，机身长度调节方便，机体坚固能蹋于瀑破装，媒的工作面等优点，所以在多镇煤矿使用较为广泛。但它的缺点是：工作阻力大，耗电量大，溜槽磨损严重，维护和使用不当时易断链，运输距离受到一定限制。
