别字是由于字形相近，或字音相同，而产生的辨别错误。是指写错或读错的字，比如把“寒暄”写成“寒喧”，是写别字；把“破绽”的“绽”（zhàn）读“定”，是读别字。也说白字。别字也可以称作“别号”。
