初鸟类又名鸟翼类，是一个包括飞行恐龙及其仅存的现生代表鸟类的演化支。它通常被定义为所有更接近于现代鸟类（鸟纲）而远离恐爪龙下目的兽脚类恐龙，虽然偶尔会使用其他定义。 来自德国晚侏罗世索伦霍芬组的始祖鸟是已知最早可能拥有动力飞行能力的初鸟类。然而，已知数个更古老的初鸟类来自中国中侏罗世的髫髻山组，年代约为1.6亿年前。
