分子动理论（kinetic theory of molecules）是研究物质热运动性质和规律的经典微观统计理论。它认为物质是由大量分子、原子（以下统称分子）组成的，这些分子处于不停顿的无规律热运动之中，分子之间存在着相互作用力，分子的运动遵从牛顿运动定律。它通过对大量分子求统计平均的方法，建立宏观量与相应的微观量平均值的关系，用以定量说明物体的状态方程、热力学性质以及扩散、热传导、黏滞性等的微观本质。分子动理论主要应用于气体，也称为气体动理论。
分子动理论是非重点教学内容，但仍应重视其在素质教育中的积极作用。
