刃脚是指外壁下端的尖利部分。其作用是使沉井在自重作用下便于切入土中，它是受力很集中的部分，必须有足够的强度，以免挠曲与受损。刃脚有多种形式，如图1-1所示，沉井沉入坚硬土层和到达岩层者，宜采用有钢刃尖的刃脚；沉入松软土层者，宜用带踏面的刃脚，但踏面宽度一般不大于0.15m。踏面可使沉井下沉初期不致下沉过快造成倾斜。刃脚斜面与水平面夹角不宜小于45°。需要下沉至稍有倾斜的岩面时，在掌握岩层高低差变化的情况下，可将沉井刃脚做成与岩面倾斜相适应的高低刃脚。
