凤鸟谓凤皇。中国传说中的神鸟。《山海经·大荒西经》：“有五采鸟三名：一曰皇鸟，一曰鸾鸟，一曰凤鸟。” 按所谓五采鸟，皆凤凰属之鸟。《山海经·海内西经》云：“孟鸟在貊国东北，其鸟文赤、黄、青、东乡。”《海外西经》云：“灭蒙鸟在结匈国北，为鸟青，赤尾。”所记皆凤鸟。参见“灭蒙鸟”。
