冷阱是一种阻止蒸气或液体从系统进入测量仪器，或从测量仪器进入系统的一种装置。它能提供一个非常低温的表面，在此表面上，分子能够凝聚，并能提高一至二个数量级的真空度。但是，不适当地使用冷阱能减少仪器的准确性，造成仪器或系统的破坏，产生一种物理事故。例如，冷阱中使用的许多脂的混合物有毒，处理不当时也能发生爆炸事故。
