冷冻治疗是利用对局部组织的冷冻，可控地破坏或切除活组织的治疗方法。或称冷冻外科。组织快速冷冻，温度降到0℃以下，细胞内、外的组织液形成冰晶，细胞结构被破坏。 冷冻之后继之细胞脱水，膜系统的脂蛋白变性，组织发生缺血性梗塞，营养缺乏，而终至坏死。在复温过程中，被破坏的组织蛋白质具有新的抗原特性，刺激机体的免疫系统，使产生自身免疫反应。故冷冻治疗局部的原发恶性肿瘤时，远隔的转移瘤的生长可能受到抑制。治疗时可将致冷原涂布于治疗部位，也可用金属冷冻部接触或刺入局部组织。
