日照市农业学校创建于1979年，原为一所农技中学，1986年经省政府批准上升为莒县职业中专，1992年和1995年分别被省政府和国家教委授予省级和国家级职业学校。在此基础上，1996年经省政府批准成立日照市农业学校，2001年经莒县人民政府批准，依托职业中专成立莒县实验高中，2002年经省教育厅批准，面向初中毕业生招收“三二连读”专科，成为日照市唯一的一所既有职业中专、普通中专、普通高中、又有三二连读、成人教育的综合性学校。
