农区是指以农业 (种植业) 生产为主的地区。它是相对于以畜牧业生产为主的牧区、以林业生产为主的林区、以渔业生产为主的渔区而言的。它主要生产粮、棉、油、麻、丝、茶、糖、菜、烟、果等农产品。农区农业的发展，应该以生态农业为其发展方向，通过利用人、生物与环境之间的能量转换定律和生物间的共生相养规律，结合本地资源结构，建立一个或多个一业为主、综合发展、多级转换、良性循环的高效无废料系统，达到能量转换率最高、物质产出量最大、资源保护最好、经济效益最佳的目的。
