内绝缘是指为空气复合绝缘，是设备内部绝缘的固体、液体、气体部分，基本不受大气、污秽、潮湿、异物等外界条件影响。设备绝缘中与空气接触的部分称为外绝缘，而不与空气接触的部分称为内绝缘。在设计绝缘时，都使内绝缘强度高于外绝缘强度。这是因为外绝缘稳定性受环境的影响较大，有一定的自然恢复能力，而内绝缘水平不受空气湿度与表面脏污程度的影响，相对比较稳定，但自然恢复能力较差，一旦绝缘水平下降，势必影响安全运行。
