“元四家”是元代山水画的四位代表画家的合称。主要有二说：一是指赵孟頫、吴镇、黄公望、王蒙四人，见明代王世贞《艺苑卮言·附录》。二是指黄公望、王蒙、倪瓒、吴镇四人，见明代董其昌《容台别集·画旨》。第二说流行较广。 也有将赵孟頫、高克恭、黄公望、吴镇、倪瓒、王蒙合称为“元六家”。画风虽各有特点，但主要都从五代董源、北宋巨然的基础上发展而来，重笔墨，尚意趣，并结合书法诗文，是元代山水画的主流，对明清两代影，响很大。
