简称催化选择性，催化剂的重要性质之一，指在能发生多种反应的反应系统中，同一催化剂促进不同反应的程度的比较。如乙醇在高温时可脱氢转变成乙醛，亦可脱水转变成乙烯，银催化剂能促进前一反应，氧化铝催化剂则促进后一反应。人体中的酶即为高选择性的催化剂（见酶催化剂），不同的酶使许多生化过程有条不紊地进行，形成正常的生理活动；如酶遭到破坏则导致疾病或死亡。在工业上则利用催化选择性使原料向指定的方向转化，减少副反应。当催化剂的活性与选择性不能同时满足时，应根据工业生产过程的要求综合考虑。如果反应原料昂贵与副产物很难分离，最好选用高选择性催化剂，反之，如果原料价廉且与产物易于分离，则宜采用高活性（即高转化率）的催化剂。
