储备基金是指企业为保证生产和经营活动正常进行而购进原材料、燃料、外购半成品、包装物、低值易耗品，以及修理用备件等物资占用的资金。是企业流动资金的主要组成部分。其占用量的大小，主要取决于企业的生产规模、物资消耗水平、供应条件和经营管理水平。一般要制定合理定额，使其既能保证生产的需要，又不造成资金使用上的浪费。有条件的企业还可以分别对其主要种类确定“经济定购量”，以使企业能以最低的成本满足对于储备物资的需要。
