俯冲断层（underthrust）是指下盘为主动盘的逆冲断层。作为俯冲断层，随着运动的进行，需要负起的上盘断块的重量会愈来愈大，因此，大多数俯冲断层不会延伸很远，位移量也不会太大。
这种类型的断层通常出现在挤压区域，比如像日本那样的，板块向另一板块之下俯冲的区域。
