侧推器是指一种助船转向的装置。一般是设于船首部横向管道内由电动机带动的螺旋桨，能将一舷的水排向另一舷，借水的反作用力助船转向。当船离、靠码头或低速航行时，舵的作用很小，用侧推器可改善船的操纵性能。有的在船首、尾各装一侧推器，就能将船横向移动或就地转向。
