所谓作词，是指因歌而去写作表达感情的词。从《诗经》到后来风靡几世的宋词，从远古的部落传唱到如今的地方戏曲，所有的词无一不是因“歌”而作。因为人类天生的具有情感，在需要宣泄或表达的时候，就会需要“歌”，而“歌”的过程中又需要适当的词来填充。于是，作词这个概念就这样诞生了。作词有广义与狭义之分。
