As a sidenote, I use this trick frequently: if I'm not sure about my reaction to some event, I imagine someone describing the situation to me as if it happened to a stranger.
于是我在门边转过身来，看到了一个穿了袍子，戴了面纱的人，一点都不像我往常的样子，就仿佛是一位陌生人的影像。
So I turned at the door: I saw a robed and veiled figure, so unlike my usual self that it seemed almost the image of a stranger.
