仙人树属仙人掌科。仙人掌喜阳光充足和温暖、通风的环境，耐寒、耐旱，对土壤要求不高，适应性较强。2011年9月20日，四川泸州市纳溪区棉花坡镇有颗8米高的仙人树，树梢上结了6个仙人果，非常惹人可爱。树干笔直挺拔，高约8米，直径约12厘米，很有观赏价值。
但是他们被植物所环抱：棕榈树，仙人掌和各种各样的树还有鲜花。

一些仙人掌，如撒瓜罗，能长到象树那么高。但真正的树却需要比大多数沙漠所能提供的更多的水份，所以树在沙漠里是鲜见的。
