付款是付款人向持票人支付票据金额的全部或一部，以消灭票据关系的行为。支付全部金额时，一切票据关系因此而消灭，支付部分金额时，只消灭已支付部分的票据关系，其余票据关系仍存在。作为金钱证券的票据，付款只以金钱为限。如以金钱以外的东西支付，持票可以拒绝受领。但持票人同意的不在此限，其程序一般是，在到期日到来时，票据的最后持票人向票据上记载的付款人提示票据、请求付款。付款人付款后收固票据。票据法律关系因此消灭。付款是票据关系的最后环节。
