人本主义是德文Anthropologismus的意译，又译人本学。希腊文词源antropos和logos，意为人和学说。通常指人本学，是一种从生物学的角度解释人的形而上学学说。以19世纪德国的费尔巴哈及之后俄国的车尔尼雪夫斯基为代表。费尔巴哈拒绝唯物主义，避免采用甚至反对唯物主义这个术语，因而将自己的哲学称作人本主义或哲学中的人本主义原则。
