脏是指胸腹腔内之组织充实致密，并能贮存、分泌或制造精气的脏器。《素问·五脏别论》：“所谓五脏者，藏精气而不泻也，故满而不能实。”《灵枢·本脏》：“五脏者，所以藏精神血气魂魄者也。”根据脏象学说，五脏是人体生命活动的中心，精神意识活动分属于五脏，加上六腑的配合，把人体表里的组织器官联系起来，构成一个统一的整体。
