五明梵语pan~ca vidya^-stha^na^ni，亦称“五明处”。“明”谓学问、学科，为古印度的五门学科，概括了当时所有的知识体系。此所谓五明为声明、因明、医方明、工巧明、内明。拿今天的话讲，学五明即是学科学技术。比如今天的建筑学即是工巧明之一。
