七年（公元1868年），义军根据地荆竹园、偏刀水、玉华山先后失陷，清廷集中湘、川、黔中省兵力围剿苗族义军，义军虽然取得了黄飘歼敌二万余人的大捷，但于九年（公元1870年）失利，退守雷公山。十一年（公元1872年）在乌鸦坡决战中，义军损失惨重，九松在战斗中牺牲。
