早在1780年，英国一位报社编辑者名叫雷克斯创办了主日学。主日学是基督教教会于星期日早上在教堂内进行的宗教教育，一般在主日崇拜之前或之后举行。 主日学的形式多样化，因教堂而异，内容多以查经、基要信仰造就为主，并由教会所指定的主日学老师或牧师任教。广义的定义而言教会的普遍教育都是主日学教育。
主日学校的上课时间是9点到10点半；然后是教堂礼拜。
