主动性（initiative）个体按照自己规定或设置的目标行动，而不依赖外力推动的行为品质。由个人的需要、动机、理想、抱负和价值观等推动。艾里克森认为，这是个体心理社会性发展的第三个阶段，即主动对罪恶阶段（3－6岁）可能形成积极品质。在父母的鼓励下，具有该行为品质的儿童对外界事物好奇，充满兴趣，积极探索和控制外在环境，形成目的意识，为自信心和创造性品质的形成打下基础。
