中稀土是钐、铕、钆、铽和镝五种稀土元素的总称。除钷、钪以外，根据稀土矿物的形成特点，分离工艺上的要求，将其分为两组或三组。其中按萃取分离可分为： 轻稀土（P204弱酸度萃取）—镧、铈、镨、钕和钷； 中稀土（P204低酸度萃取）—钐、铕、钆、铽和镝； 重稀土（P204中酸度萃取）—钬、铕、铒、铥、镱、镥、钇和钪。
