船底部一般沿纵向设置一~三道内龙骨，较大一些的船则设置五道。设置在船底中心线上的一道称为中内龙骨，其余的称为旁内龙骨。中内龙骨多用T型钢制成，旁内龙骨用T型钢或折边钢板制成。中内龙骨起保证船底纵向强度作用，一般都贯通全船，只有在机舱内，有的船以主机基座纵桁代替中内龙骨，在横舱壁处中内龙骨间断。
