东礁为一个环礁，东西长13公里，宽4公里，总面积41.6平方公里，其中礁坪面积25.1平方那公里，中间礁湖面积16.5平方公里，是南沙群岛中礁坪面积最大的几个礁之一。东礁环礁礁盘不连续，中间浅湖水深7.5米。口门发育在环礁西南端，有两个，可进50吨级渔船。东礁礁盘西和南面有4个礁头露出海面。东礁(East Reef) 位于北纬8度49分，东经112度36分。东礁是我国固有领土，中国政府对此拥有无可争辩的主权。
